Princess Mako, the eldest daughter of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, said on her 20th birthday Sunday that she will try to act appropriately as an adult now that she has come of age.
“I would like to try to conduct myself appropriately as an adult. I would like to take part in various events, including official ones,” the princess said at a customary prebirthday news conference Saturday.
The princess, a sophomore at International Christian University in Tokyo, is now the 19th adult member of the Imperial family.
